So Star Wars: The Force Awakens has pulverised the U.S. box office, unseating Avatar to become the top-earning film of all time in North America. Woop – there it is! Owned. That Force – it’s a wonderful thing! Not only has it broken records and inspired seven films’ worth of intergalactic awesomeness plus the coolest, creepiest baddy in the history of ever – “Luke, (dodgy breathing) I am your father (more dodgy breathing)” – but also, some seriously cool fashion.
This season, Star Wars is rocking the runways, from inspired styles by David Koma, Johji Yamomoto and emerging London-based designer Edeline Lee, to more obvious film-infused statement fashion by Rodarte and Thronton Bregazzi. And in celebration of the film, Disney Consumer Products and Bloomingdales have joined forces with a group of big-league designers in a new fashion-meets-fundraising initiative – Force 4 Fashion. Taking inspiration from the film’s costume designer, Michael Kaplan, fashion favourites Cynthia Rowley, Diane von Furstenberg, Giles Deacon, Halston, Opening Ceremony, Ovadia & Sons, Parker, Rag & Bone, Timo Weiland and Todd Snyder are each creating an outfit to be auctioned for charity that pays homage to characters from the new movie. But, when it comes to style sensation, best of all is the chichi that rocks the street with the uberswag of a Star Wars fan – princess Leia buns with Darth Vader ear buds by FunKo and a Loungefly Star Wars Classic Poster Image Blue Hobo Bag courtesy of Purple Heels. It’s an extravaganza of the most awesome kind. And best news alive – two more films have been commissioned as part of a new trilogy franchise, which means fashion galore. There’s nothing more to say other than YAY! And…
…may The Force be with you.
